Rekomendasi makanan yang diajurkan untuk golongan darah A adalah makanan yang terdiri dari buah, sayur, gandum utuh, kacang \u2013 kacangan, biji \u2013 bijian dan polong \u2013 polongan yang organik dan segar serta makanan yang cenderung rendah daging. Selain itu golongan darah B juga disarankan untuk menghindari makanan berbahan jagung, buckwheat, lentil, tomat, kacang \u2013 kacangan dan wijen. Golongan darah AB dianggap cenderung memiliki asam lambung rendah sehingga baik untuk menghindari makanan dengan kafein, alkohol dan makanan yang diasapkan atau diawetkan. Golongan darah O disarankan untuk mengonsumsi makanan dengan kadar karbohidrat rendah dan mengonsumsi makanan dan minuman dengan protein tinggi. Perbedaan metabolisme zat gizi dan jenis makanan tertentu dengan penyakit yang cenderung menyerang golongan darah tertentu belum banyak terbukti pada diet golongan darah. Pada penelitian ini tidak menjelaskan secara spesifik adanya alergi pada makanan dan hipersensitivitas yang timbul karena golongan darah yang mengharuskan adanya diet ini.
