Banyak perusahaan yang berlomba-lomba untuk membuat berbagai suplemen makanan dengan berbagai macam klaim yang masih dipertanyakan bukti ilmiahnya. Tahun 2010 saja, pasar untuk vitamin anak-anak di Indonesia mencapai US $ 43.300.000 atau bila setara dengan 586 milyar rupiah. Pasar Industri suplemen makanan tumbuh hingga 14% per tahun dan 70% produknya didominasi oleh produk dari Amerika<span id=\"d43f60a4-2ee6-4573-a8c7-2d9e241377af\" data-items=\"[&quot;542866973&quot;]\" class=\"abt-citation\" data-has-children=\"true\" contenteditable=\"false\"><sup>\u200b1\u200b<\/sup><\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ahligizi.id\/assets\/img\/artikel\/multivitamin_zat_gizi.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Padahal bila kita lihat lebih jauh, banyak penelitian penelitian Randomized Clinical Trial (RCT) tentang suplementasi vitamin dan mineral yang menunjukkan bahwa manfaat yang diberikan untuk pencegahan  primer terjadinya penyakit kronis yang berhubungan dengan defisiensi gizi adalah tidak jelas <span id=\"186dc556-d924-45fc-b6d9-2cdd5b065c85\" data-items=\"[&quot;3373901188&quot;,&quot;179074074&quot;]\" data-has-children=\"true\" class=\"abt-citation\" contenteditable=\"false\"><sup>\u200b2,3\u200b<\/sup><\/span> . Penelitian demi penelitian masih dilakukan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana suplementasi vitamin dan mineral benar-benar bermanfaat untuk kesehatan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Dalam beberapa percobaan menunjukkan bahwa suplementasi zat gizi mikro dalam jumlah melebihi AKG mungkin memiliki  efek yang berbahaya. Efek berbahaya yang bisa ditimbulkan karena kelebihan konsumsi suplementasi zat gizi mikro antara lain risiko kematian, kanker dan stroke hemoragic <span id=\"15677db3-efc3-42ed-81d5-d119f1e74707\" data-items=\"[&quot;2509737413&quot;]\" data-has-children=\"true\" contenteditable=\"false\" class=\"abt-citation\"><sup>\u200b4\u200b<\/sup><\/span>.  Penelitian lainnya menyebutkan, penggunaan suplementasi multivitamin bahkan tidak berdampak apapun pada orang dewasa yang sehat dan hanya memberikan manfaat kepada orang tua <span id=\"bef94ed0-d74e-47a4-9206-45cea4de18e0\" data-items=\"[&quot;179074074&quot;]\" data-has-children=\"true\" contenteditable=\"false\" class=\"abt-citation\"><sup>\u200b3\u200b<\/sup><\/span>.<br> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Kami menyarankan kepada dokter dan ahli gizi agar mengurangi penggunaan suplementasi zat gizi mikro (multivitamin) kepada pasien yang sehat dan tidak ada indikasi penyakit tertentu. Selain itu, dokter harus menasehati pasien bahwa suplementasi semacam itu bukanlah pengganti makanan yang bergizi seimbang.<br> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Kita semua harus tahu bahwa zat gizi mikro yang didapatkan dari makanan jauh lebih baik daripada yang berasal dari suplementasi makanan. Akan tetapi, penggunaan suplementasi zat gizi tertentu tetap dibutuhkan untuk penyakit-penyakit yang pemenuhan zat gizinya tidak cukup dari makanan saja serta untuk orang-orang sehat dengan kondisi tertentu misalnya hamil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Panduan Umum suplementasi pada orang sehat berdasarkan siklus kehidupan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ibu Hamil : asam Folat, vitamin prenatal<\/li><li>Bayi dan anak-anak :  untuk bayi menyusui, vitamin D sampai disapih dan zat besi dari umur 4-6 bulan<\/li><li>Dewasa pertengahan dan akhir : vitamin B12, vitamin D dan\/atau kalsium<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Panduan spulementasi pada kelompok berisiko tinggi<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Kondisi medis yang menganggu absorbsi zat gizi atau metabolisme :<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">           a.       Bedah bariatric : vitamin larut lemak, vitamin B, zat besi,                kalsium, seng, tembaga, multivitamin dan mineral<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">           b.       Anemia pernisiosa : vitamin B12 (1-2 mg\/hari secara oral atau   0,1-1 mg\/hari secara intramuskular)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">            c.
