Namun, risiko kakeksia meningkat pada pasien kanker. Kakeksia ditandai dengan penurunan berat badan yang tidak diinginkan, penurunan massa jaringan terutama massa tanpa lemak dan jaringan adiposa, ketidakmampuan melakukan aktivitas harian dan adanya perubahan metabolik. Tujuan pemberian asupan gizi pada pasien kanker antara lain : <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Memberikan makanan yang seimbang sesuai kondisi penyakit dan daya terima pasien<\/li><li>Mencegah atau menghambat penurunan berat badan<\/li><li>Mengurangi efek samping terapi pengobatan kanker<\/li><li>Mengupayakan perubahan sikap dan perilaku sehat terhadap makan oleh pasien dan keluarga<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Dysgeusia atau perubahan pada indra pengecapan juga rentan dialami pasien kanker. Cara mengatasinya yaitu melalui : <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Bagi pasien yang merasakan logam di mulut :<\/li><li>Gunakan peralatan makan dari plastik \/ melamin<\/li><li>Tuang makanan yang memiliki kemasan kaleng ke gelas dulu<\/li><li>Bila daging tidak bisa ditoleransi, kombinasikan dengan makanan tinggi sumber protein lain : ayam, ikan, telur, siusu<\/li><li>Pilih sayuran dan buah segar<\/li><li>Bagi yang sama sekali tidak bisa merasakan makanan , gunkaan bumbu tajam dan beraroma<\/li><li>Pilih kudapan padat gizi<\/li><li>Gosok gigi sebelum dan sesudah makan<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Asupan energi dan protein sangat penting bagi pasien kanker.
